Frequently asked questions

The essentials about playback, privacy, volume, and what the app can—and cannot—promise.

Does the spectrum use my microphone?

No. It reads the digital signal generated by the app. Noise for Sleeping does not request microphone, camera, contact, or file access.

Will it work offline?

After the app shell has been cached by a supported browser, the three synthetic noises and their controls can run without a network connection.

Why does audio sometimes pause when I lock my phone?

Mobile browsers and operating systems control background audio. Media Session support helps, but calls, other media, battery policies, and some iOS configurations can interrupt playback. Tap Play to resume when the browser permits it.

Is 42% a safe physical volume?

A browser percentage is not a decibel reading. Physical level depends on your device and listening setup. Start low, keep the sound comfortable, and use an external sound-level measurement when calibrated physical limits matter.

Which noise color should I use?

Choose the one that feels least distracting at a low level. White is brighter, pink is balanced, and brown is deeper. There is no universal best color for every person, room, or speaker.

Does this treat insomnia or tinnitus?

No medical claim is made. Some people use steady noise for masking or personal comfort, but that is not diagnosis or treatment. Seek qualified care for persistent sleep or hearing concerns.
